Last week a couple of things happened to me which made me realise I really could be missing a trick here.
For a while I had known that I was going to be speaking to a school in Leicester regarding International Women’s Day. I was rather excited, curious and nervous regarding who I was talking to-mainly 14-year-old girls, and hopefully I would come away, inspiring at least one person. As per usual I did my research and put together a presentation regarding Women in Media, Women in roles that are related to my own experience and the fact that interestingly, despite what many thing, equality is nowhere near what we think it is.
Previously in the week I had been chatting to a Lecturer regarding one of his students work experience placements with my company. Now, it may come as a shock, but I don’t get my work experience people to make tea. I get them to work, I get the to learn, understand and demonstrate and from that we both benefit. Generally they gain a lot and so do I, and thankfully, the lecturer was incredibly happy with the set up. He then went on to ask me if I had ever considered lecturing myself, which I have, but didn’t really know where to start. So, I have my first gig in April, covering a Web Content lecture which I am really excited about. This could be a new direction, and thinking back I have presented a few times to various outfits, including the Radio Academy and Antenna.
Its something I do enjoy, although always feel a little nervous, but I hope that I inspire people and that some do learn from the information I feed to them.
What I love is if I engage people so much, they want to ask questions at the end of the session.
So, now the focus is going to be on moving into that direction and getting more experience.
