All brand new

On Friday I leave the hustle and bustle of Nottingham city to up roots and plant them in North Yorkshire. It’s an incredibly exciting part of my life, and I can’t wait to get stuck in.

Why am I moving up north? I’ve been recruited as Head of Creative for Stray FM in Harrogate. This is a new position, new people, new clients, a new way of working and new responsibility. I’ll be working for UKRD who, own 17 stations across the UK and have been the number 1 company to work for in the Times Top 100 companies, for a few years. I get to work with Mike Bersin and Tom Woods, total legends and guys I’ve known for quite a few years.

Not only that but Harrogate is the happiest place to live in the UK, so I figure that this is going to be an incredible gig.

I was lucky to meet some of the team last Friday at the Local Hero Awards. In its 8th year, the LHA commends local people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. Something I was so privileged to experience, and of course, I got to meet my team and some fantastic clients.

As a writer, I feel, I need to be challenged, and also, after years of working in creative, whatever industry, I’ve realised that I’m not only a writer but an ideas person, a consultant if you will. I enjoy the brain churning parts of the job, where you literally just sit and think. I believe that’s what makes great creatives different. Sometimes it doesn’t need a lot of brain power to site and write a piece, but when you’re considering a lot of different elements, that is when being a creative becomes really interesting. I love the research, I love taking risks, I love the serious side and of course the daft stuff.

So, you’ll be able to keep track of what I’m up to on here.

But for now, I’ve got to pack away my desk and get ready for the move
